New category 'AI Tools' (June 07, 2025)

In this new category, I collect links to AI tools that claim to make our lives easier with the help of "artificial intelligence". As always, the selection is made without guarantee of functionality and the description is mostly based on the information provided by the providers.

New category 'Electronic Invoice' (January 05, 2025)

Even though the obligation to create electronic invoices in Germany will not start for a few years, I have already created a category Electronic Invoice in which I collect all tools, code snippets and templates on the subject of XRechnung and ZUGFeRD with VBA.

unblock files downloaded from the Internet (November 17, 2024)

I have written a tool with which I can easily unblock files downloaded from the Internet or sent by e-mail using drag & drop, instead of having to click on 'Unblock' in the properties for each individual file.

Since I am obviously not the only one who is annoyed by the frequent unnecessary unblocking, I have made it available for download as free software on my homepage.

The "New Outlook" (December 04, 2023)

Microsoft wants to switch all mail clients to a standardised code base. This is why the standalone Windows Mail app and the Windows Calendar app have just been replaced by the so-called "New Outlook". Microsoft is also encouraging users of the current Outlook to try out the new version. This means (apart from privacy and data security issues) that it can no longer be controlled remotely from Excel or Access, as the "New Outlook" no longer contains a COM interface.

It is not yet clear whether the current Outlook will later be forcibly replaced by the "New Outlook". In any case, it will remain available until 2029. The Access team is aware of the problem of the missing interface for remote control and, together with the more influential Excel team, is trying to prevent the worst from happening. You can find out more at Access Forever and at heise.de.

Less is more (May 21, 2023)

After I have recently renewed the site technically and visually, it is now the turn of the content. On a few rainy, non-working days, I ran the database, browser, content blocker and virus scanner at full speed and checked all the links (at least roughly) by hand. In the process, I removed many pages that no longer exist (including some that I remember as really valuable), adjusted quite a few links and descriptions, and deleted or merged some categories.
Now the catalogue is only half the size, but twice as valuable again, because it only contains up-to-date links. But since this can change daily, I hope that you will continue to notify me of pages that have disappeared or changed.
